Indonesia to Hit Train Roof Riders With Nasty Goop

Indonesia has another bizarre way to keep commuters off the roofs of trains: swat them with brooms drenched in putrid goop.

“For anyone who is still up there, it’ll be like a whip,” said Ahmad Sujadi, of the state-run railway, PT Kereta Api Indonesia. The contraptions will be installed at select crossings this week.

Indonesia has tried just about everything to keep passengers from clamoring atop trains that crisscross its main island of Java: spraying them with paint guns, calling in sniffer dogs, and asking for help from Muslim clerics.

The first tactic that worked was deployed last month.

Grapefruit-sized concrete balls were suspended on chains from a frame that looks like a soccer goal. “Rail surfers,” realizing they could be knocked in the head or even killed, quickly called it quits.

The concrete balls can only be suspended over non-electric tracks, but no rail-surfing deaths have occurred where they are in place.

Put chocolate in a bowl to save heat and set aside.

Over medium-high heat, stir together sugar and syrup for beer. Stir regularly to maintain combustion and reduce mixture until the syrup drips slowly from the spoon. This will produce about 1 / 4 cup.

Once the syrup is done, heat the cream in a saucepan over medium-high heat until it reaches a boil. Stir occasionally. Add the stout syrup a couple of tablespoons at a time, stirring to incorporate.

Once all the syrup is mixed with cream (can use less if desired), pour the mixture over the hot chocolate.If you have a lid for the bowl, put it on and let the chocolate and cream to rest for 3-5 minutes, undisturbed. Then mix.

If you have any unmelted chocolate lumps, microwave the mixture in 15-20 second bursts, stirring well after each time.
