Since I'm about to beat up this book, allow me to quantify because I think it's good for me to do this ...

Every time I try to learn a new skill web, I almost always looked to Peachpit Press' Visual Quickstart (VQS) series first. I did this for HTML, CSS, Flash / ActionScript, JavaScript, PHP and Photoshop ... just to name a few.

I will continue to use the series this way because the exercises in the books are so detailed that it is as if a teacher is right their in the room with you.The tutorial will walk with patience through all the code examples, explaining the "how" and "why" of each line of code.

On many occasions, their contents provide even greater detail in the sidebar to enter the code, a kind of "Did you know?" Section. And almost all the books I've read VQS provide a small list of resources at the end of the book so that the reader can further their learning....
